The Heart of the Matter
The six-speed automatic transmission on the 2014 Toyota Venza comes in either the fuel-efficient 2.7L four-cylinder engine with a still-impressive 182 hp and 182 lb-ft of torque, or a fire-breathing 3.5L V6 engine with 268 hp and 246 lb-ft of torque. Both versions pack a decent amount of muscle onto them, with the four-cylinder more than pulling its weight with a 1,587 kg (3,500 lbs) towing capability and the V6 boasting of an impressive 1,134 kg (2,500 lbs). And if you ever find yourself in a hilly city and stopped on an incline, let the Hill-start Assist Control get to work, temporarily engaging the brakes to avoid rollbacks.
Making it Run
The public spoke, and Toyota listened, crafting the Venza to offer as much pep and power as possible without being a gas-guzzler. The four different 2014 Toyota Venza models are fairly similar in fuel economy, with the Venza FWD only taking 10L/100 km (28 mpg) in the city and 6.9L/100 km (41 mpg) on the highways for a combined 8.6L/100 km (33 mpg). Next up on the list is the Venza AWD, requiring not much more to power it up with 10.2L/100 km (28 mpg) city and 7.1L/100 km (40 mpg) highway, resulting in a combined 8.8L/100 km (32 mpg).
Surprisingly, the V6 models take only a smidgen more gas than their four-cylinder counterparts, with the V6 FWD clocking in at a respectable 11.1L/100 km (25 mpg) city, 7.7L/100 km (37 mpg) highway and combined 9.6L/100 km (29 (mpg). Switching to All Wheel Drive on the V6 is barely noticeable at the pumps, with economy at 11.4L/100 km (25 mpg) city, 7.9L/100 km (36 mpg) highway and 9.8L/100 km (29 mpg) combined.
